Hellenic Relief Foundation Collects Clothing and diapers for the needy in Greece(10/18/20) NEW JERSEY – At St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff, NJ, clothing, shoes, sneakers and diapers were collected for the Hellenic Relief Foundation. The event was organized and run by the St Nicholas Philoptochos President Peggy Goulet, members of the Daughters of Penelope and St Nicholas GOYA. Many young adults from the community enthusiastically volunteered! Approximately 60 boxes of clothing/shoes/sneakers and 10 boxes of diapers were collected. Knowing that the clothing we folded and sorted was headed to the beloved children in Greece for the Christmas Clothing Distribution, made the event that much more special. All were very happy to participate! |

NY Greeks Try to Provide Some Relief to Homeland
(02/29/12) The economic crisis in Greece has shrunk the country’s economy, cost tens of thousands of jobs and led the government to impose severe austerity measures. Now, a group of Greek New Yorkers is mobilizing to help Greece’s most vulnerable survive the harsh economic times.
The newly-formed non-profit, Hellenic Relief Foundation, is raising money to provide families in need with food, which many have been unable to afford since the debt crisis plunged the small Mediterranean nation’s economy into a deep and enduring recession. Read more
Η ομογένεια στέλνει βοήθεια σε άπορους Έλληνες
(02/28/2012) Το ομογενειακό νεοσυσταθέν «Ίδρυμα Ελληνικής Συμπαράστασης» παρέδωσε στις 25 και 26 Φεβρουαρίου βοήθεια σε τρόφιμα και είδη πρώτης ανάγκης σε 240 οικογένειες στην Ελλάδα.
Συγκεκριμένα, στις 25 Φεβρουαρίου δόθηκαν 145 δέματα σε άπορα άτομα και οικογένειες που αντιμετωπίζουν άμεσο πρόβλημα επιβίωσης. Η συσκευασία των τροφίμων έγινε από εθελόντριες του συλλόγου, ενώ η δημοτική αστυνομία βοήθησε ώστε η διανομή να γίνει απρόσκοπτα και με τάξη. Read more
Aid Packages Delivered to Homeless Shelter in Athens
(02/27/12) More Greek American relief efforts announced. Stelios Taketzis of the Hellenic Relief Foundation: “People wanted to kiss our hands”. Greek business people launch an international plea asking to “Give Greece a Chance” The first food aid packages for needy Greeks were delivered last week by members of the Hellenic Relief Foundation, a Greek American non-profit organization. Board members Prokopis Zervas and Stelios Taketzis visited on Saturday the City of Athens Homeless Shelter and delivered 145 food bags containing Flower, Sugar, toast (Fryganies), olive oil, canned tomatoes, Canned milk, rice, spaghetti, lentil, beans, garbanzos, coffee/tea, toilet paper and detergent. The provisions can help a four-member family for about a month. Yesterday the board members were expected to deliver 90 more food bags at Perama. Read more
